high-alt KB crew will be spending the next few weeks at the Kongo base releasing several balloons so meteorologists can collect more extensive data and further improve forecasts for the region to benefit planning of ground excursions around the river basin

waiting on good weather, high-alt KerBalloon crew have finally released their first payload from the Kongo base and will range out further as their stay progresses, covering areas all along the river out to the mouth more than 350km to the west

after spending the majority of the day collecting & downlinking science data, Kerbin II also runs through comms protocol testing with all our ground stations & commercial telecomms. It can even be seen 3-4° over the horizon occasionally by DSN North & South stations

latest down-link of science data also included this image that was up-linked from out in the field as the high-altitude KB team release their fifth and final balloon near the mouth of the Kongo river. They'll be packing up and heading home this month

high-altitude KerBalloon crew landed back at KSC today after their extended mission over in the Kongo river basin. All 5 release & recoveries were successful, now meteorologists have a better weather picture of the area that will help planning for future surface excursions
