new contract for the low-alt KB team will have them hop aboard a regular supply ship from Umbarg to Arekibo, get dropped off along the way to traverse via UTV to the release site, then back to the water to be picked up when the cargo ship sails back to Umbarg a few days later

normally this type of mission would be carried out via airship with a lot more support supplies but with Kerbin II in orbit making passes overhead the team can radio for any assistance from the Kongo base if needed & we can stay in touch with them on a regular basis

low-altitude KerBalloon crew have set out on the cargo ship bound for Arekibo out of Umbarg, will be dropped off along the way to release two balloons over bit.ly/Sector_KD-T. We'll be keeping track of their progress thanks to relayed comms from Kerbin II to Kongo base

the low-altitude KB crew are checking in regulalrly through bit.ly/Kerbin-II as they work through their overland transit to get to the release site after being deployed by the cargo ship. They will deploy over the weekend if all goes well

low-altitude KerBalloon crew have made their first release today. Image was sent via Kerbin II to the Kongo base then along the ground cable to us at KSC (re-routed at Kravass then Umbarg). So cool to finally be able to keep tabs on distant surface expeditions!

in the past, we've had to rely on airships for comms over the horizon, this is just one example of many. It was still rather limited in overall range. Having the network and spacecraft to do this ourselves across the globe is a goal we've long sought twitter.com/KSA_MissionCtrβ¦

latest report from the low-alt KB crew is that they made it back to the boat okay, however the second release failed when the balloon refused to inflate due to damage that likely occurred during transit. Uncommon, but always an unfortunate possibility

successful return of the low-alt KerBalloon crew today as their ship pulled into port in Umbarg. They are excited to plan their next mission with the high-alt crew and continue to take advantage of Kerbin II to reach locations previously not as feasible
