Bill, Bob & crew prepping all 3 UTVs for departure. It will take ~1hr to get to Umbarg via the access tunnel then they will trek ~100km overland after 2nd sunrise to reach their objective @ bit.ly/Zone_DJSNM

comms relayed by airship thru Umbarg report UTVs have arrived safely @ release location and will be ready to let go with the balloon prior to 3rd sunrise

KB team have released their balloon, timed so that they can recover it at sunrise and then make it back to Umbarg before sunset with plenty of margin

passing through 8.2km we have confirmation all is well on ascent so far as balloon clears horizon to be picked up by Umbarg comm tower. We won't see it from KSC over the Western Mtns before it reaches 16.5km max altitude (stock photo shown)

KAPOW!! Ok, maybe that was a bit over-dramatic but balloon envelope has failed on schedule as external pressure dropped below 5kPa. Chutes are armed & recovery team is tracking

balloon payload has been retrieved & stowed, UTVs are now making their way back to Umbarg then KSC. Relay airship will remain on station until UTVs can talk directly to Umbarg

UTVs are rolling back to KSC after an uneventful traversal of 329km round trip. Bill spent time yesterday ensuring all were in tip-top mechanical shape
