High-Altitude Science Survey 57

An unfortunate accident prevented the team from releasing over Sector ABLE for Reaction Systems Ltd, but thankfully only one major and mostly minor injuries were sustained by the crew

CFO Mortimer has closed the deal on two new bit.ly/KerBalloonProg… contracts, one each for the high- and low-altitude crews. However since both missions can be done via UTV traversal but we only have 3 UTVs, decision is they will not be performed at the same time

to clarify - they *could* be done at the same time if one of the missions used an airship to get to the release site, recover and return but doing so would significantly cut profits from having to charter an airship vs. just putting fuel in our UTVs

the UTVs have been turned around, this time carrying the high-altitude crew and making for bit.ly/Sector_ABLE - on the slopes of the "extinct" volcano to the south for more gas measurements as scientists still think it may be waking up

UTVs of the high-alt KB crew will have by now stopped at the base of the volcano to allow the scientists at the small outpost there to properly calibrate the equipment they brought. They will drive for their release point near the summit tomorrow

we've received word of an accident on the flank of the volcano as the UTVs were making their ascent. The pathfinder vehicle tried to cut up a slope that was too steep, rolled down and took out the other two equipment carriers behind it. They all fell a few hundred meters

thankfully since our last major UTV tumble incident (kerbalspace.agency/?p=2485) cockpits have been reinforced and all but one crew escaped with only minor injury - the one with a broken arm is stable & not in need of medevac

thankfully an airship supply run already scheduled out of Umbarg to/from the research site at the volcano has allowed our beleaguered KerBalloon crew to return home. They are all receiving proper medical aid. We have a salvage airship picking up the UTVs tomorrow

all 3 UTVs have been recovered & returned to KSC. Bill will help inspect them to determine if any can be repaired. All the KerBalloon equipment they carried was a total loss. CFO Mortimer was obviously not pleased - he only barely ever manages to tolerate accidents with rockets
