Low-Altitude Science Survey 50

Traveling overland via UTV to release over Area XX-233 north of the western shore desert to help CTC Exploration get a better idea of the weather patterns in the area & if the same will happen here

CFO Mortimer has closed the deal on two new bit.ly/KerBalloonProg… contracts, one each for the high- and low-altitude crews. However since both missions can be done via UTV traversal but we only have 3 UTVs, decision is they will not be performed at the same time

to clarify - they *could* be done at the same time if one of the missions used an airship to get to the release site, recover and return but doing so would significantly cut profits from having to charter an airship vs. just putting fuel in our UTVs

the low-altitude KerBalloon crew have set out for bit.ly/Area_XX-233, which will take about 4-5 hours to reach, split up into two day cycles of travel, as the terrain through the highlands is too treacherous at night. They will release and return tomorrow

we arranged with an airship enroute from Kravass to Umbarg to contact our KerBalloon team out in the field and the captain reports they made it to the release site safely. Hopefully next year we have satellites in orbit to let us talk to such ground expeditions directly

we are receiving telemetry from the KerBalloon released out west, clearing the mountains while passing through 15km - nearly to max altitude of 16.5km, where air pressure drops below 5kPa and the durable but thick envelope cannot expand any further. POP!!

LOS from the KerBalloon as it fell back below terrain on its way back down. Chutes will deploy 2km above the ground to help the crew spot it, they will recover it once it lands (hopefully in an easily accessible area) and then begin the journey back

KerBalloon crew out in the grasslands west of KSC have roamed within sight of the Umbarg aerial and checked in. We expect them to be rolling back into KSC through the Umbarg tunnel for safer overnight travel after they stop and drop off their data at KSA HQ
