CFO Mortimer has announced the Kerbin World Firsts organization released the bounty of 57,000 funds to our account in recognition of our accomplishment this past week of putting a kerbal into space. This is enough to get the Ascension Mk2 off the ground later this year!

the award will also enable us to send Val, next in rotation, to space no earlier than Sept while also sending up another unkerbed Mk1 w/ the older capsule for more testing of Extremis instruments. Not enough tho for another Progeny Mk7-A flight unless KB/Genesis can help w/income

Specialist Bill's full physical examination has been completed with no obvious signs of problems from his short jaunt through space, but doctors still wary and will be going over the data closely before clearing Val for the next flight. Bill will be back at KSC tomorrow

our next big milestone is coming up with the next launch being our 50th rocket mission! So close to combining that with 1st space flight but at the same time happy to let it have its own recognition. Unsure yet which flight will be 50th - Val's Mk1 or unkerbed Mk1

TL;DR - pitch problems rectified for future flights, LVD ascent profile modeling getting better. Attempting the same planned trajectory for next mission and Ascension engineers have already begun work on a Mk1-B single-occupancy capsule for 2020

the unkerbed Mk1 & Mk2 missions will use the newer, lighter fins & ctrl surfaces. Kerbed Mk1 will stick to originals not just because they are well-tested but the same mass makes it easier for flight planners to stick to the same trajectory we wanted for the 1st kerbed mission

the vertical test stand today had a good static fire of the K2-X engine that will power the next unkerbed Mk1 rocket into space. Before the kerbed Mk1 engine gets its turn, we will make sure dampeners functioned properly to keep the fuel tank from damaging the engine again

Jeb managed to just barely beat Val 434 successful missions to 431 (total) in their last day of capsule simulator training. There's undoubtedly still things that can go wrong we haven't thought of to prepare for but hopefully that list is very, very small

with the previous Ascension flight analysis wrapping up & data from the rocket sled testing, planners have made a late change to next week's mission w/ a higher trajectory from ensuring the rocket burns out w/in the atmosphere, nearing 300km apokee & slightly rougher on re-entry

Commander Val & Captain Jeb are now sequestered within the Astronaut Complex until next week's mission. They'll be regularly monitored & only accessed by medical staff to ensure both are & remain in good health. Bill & Bob are totally not planning to lounge outside their windows

TL;DR: we learned a lot of new lessons, some of which have already been applied to Val's upcoming mission for what we hope will continue to be progress towards a more on-target ascent & final trajectory so our future missions can save fuel & fly tighter margins

daily medical checkups for our crew in quarantine ensure not only that they remain in good health but also allow physicians to collect base line data they can then use after the astronaut returns to see what effects exposure to 0G might have on the body, even for a short time

Val, primary crew, is spending most of her time while cooped up reviewing her mission materials. Jeb, backup crew, is pretty much gaming until he passes out. Had their roles been reversed... they would both most likely be doing the same thing

our 1st kerbed launch had the rocket rolled out the same day so we wouldn't have to lower it again. However we ended up doing that anyways a few times & the pad crew found it to not be as big a hassle as feared, so now it is rolled out a day prior & can undergo extra checks

the Ascension Mk1 can be flown with an empty capsule - so what does the crew have to do? Bob & Val are very close friends, so having him to chat with during this late stage in preflight has kept her relaxed when she doesn't have much to do & anxiety can creep in. Still, Flight Surgeon is keeping a close eye on her vitals even when down here on the ground

once she was unstrapped, Commander Val could get a better view out her window, seen here looking along her direction of travel past Sheltered Rock and Ockr. Minmus is rising over the horizon and the capsule is passing through 160km on its way to apokee

things are known to be stormy north and south of the equator and this massive system (two systems colliding??) to the north of Sheltered Rock, seen from 250km, certainly gives everyone a new perspective on the scope of these weather events

Val's last photo before she had to leave the window and strap in for re-entry as the capsule passed down below 200km. If you look closely at the bay that is cut off by cloud cover, over the water is the lift stage way off in the distance

Support Village airship tether is now occupied by another cargo carrier, this time bringing us supplies along with the capsule and Commander Val, who won't be sticking around long as she has media engagements this weekend in Umbarg & Kravass

it used to be that our crew would watch rockets climb into the sky and only dream of one day heading up there themselves. The dream has become reality. The time is now, and a whole new generation of explorers are right on their heels. How exciting!!

a final photo from Commnder Val's mission, after she was strapped back down. Prior to re-entry she had to roll the capsule "up" so her bottom was towards Kerbin. This left her with a view out into the cosmos. The Great Expanse - we'll get there someday...

although her parade isn't as big as Bill's was in the current capital Sheltered Rock, the welcome Val is getting at Kravass is much more personal being it's her home cavern. The local government will be awarding her a keystone to the city for her many accomplishments

complete ascent profile for last week's flight. So close! The large deviation near 45Β° was due to an overly-conservative guidance setting to level off the rocket. Deviation at end was an oversight, guidance unlock at MECO as original plan was to burn out of atmosphere

it took a while but we finally put together a video for the Ascension Mk1 using footage & images from Cdr Val's flight - even managed to store a bit more video during ascent finally. Sound on! Enjoy, and just imagine the Mk2... youtube.com/watch?v=ZukOY_β¦
