With a final chance at mission success, objectives are changed with the addition of an actual payload to test a prototype Luciole smallsat probe and only recover the 1st stage booster, which is the same flown on the 1st flight from Aug!

Flight 1: 8/12 @ 17:23 UTC
Flight 2: 8/26 @ 18:11 UTC
Next 2 will launch Oct, not just cause they still need to be assembled but to give us time for any adjustments based on these initial flights. More info: bit.ly/Ops_Tracker

parts from now-defunct USI for the final two Progeny Mk7-B flights have finally been cleared for purchase as Luciole continues to absorb the company and free up its assets from the clutches of litigation. Both flights are still planned to be flown in October

Launch dates and mission details may change based off both the under-analysis recent mission & whether the 3rd mission finally succeeds but these are our targets for the next Progeny launch campaign. the Mk2 was rolled out at the start of today to be hooked up to the service towers and undergo a wet dress rehearsal that saw it loaded up with 9t of liquid propellants between its 2 stages. All systems were good & we remain on sched. RTG installation will take place tomorrow

technicians will access the rocket via the crew gangway to install the RTG today via a hatch in the fairing. Hooked up to the tower environmental system used for capsules the RTG heat will be pumped away and Kerbin II can be powered up and tested

our seemingly well-laid plans for installing the RTG on the pad have come up against some unforeseen and insurmountable problems - at least, this time. We are forced to roll back to the VAB and make some adjustments. Launch delayed until next week ops.kerbalspace.agency/?vessel=ascensβ¦

the Ascension Mk2 launch delay will not have a knock-on effect for the Progeny Mk7-B launches yet, still time between delayed launch and 3rd Mk7-B launch to reconfigure pad as needed. Further delays however would also start to push back Mk7-B missions

huge milestone today as the booster recovered from the ocean after last month's 1st Progeny Mk7-B flight was successfully static fired on our horizontal test stand. This upcoming 3rd Mk7-B flight will use a booster that was originally fired in Mar and again in Apr

just firing the booster again doesn't also account for loads & stress during flight. If 3rd Mk7-B flight is good, we will delay the 4th flight in order to re-use the booster from the 2nd flight and see if a pre-flown, not just pre-fired, booster can also remain functional

We will now take the final step and attempt to re-use a previously-flown booster. the first smallSat platform from Luciole Space Systems has been designed to incorporate our RTGs for power along with backup electrical storage. They will be paired with a "tug" engine base similar to Kerbin II but first we just want to see the probe core itself function

the probe will be separated from the rocket after MECO so its internal reaction wheels can be tested. The RTG will be non-functional as we plan to crash this after uncontrolled re-entry to see what survives as part of our research into disposability

both the rocket and payload have passed through apokee, with the Bot being just 30m higher. SAS testing proceeding well between all major orientations, should have enough time to end facing retrograde and demonstrate ability to also hold not just transition

SAS testing was completed with over a minute of retrograde hold before being disabled for re-entry. Both rocket & payload are now screaming back down through the atmosphere at nearly 2km/s. We only expect the RTG casing to survive through impact

we did not regain contact with the Bot probe as expected but we did actually get signal back from the rocket so its core portion at least survived until impact. This is great because we now have a more precise location for which to hunt down the RTG casing

recovery airship has been deployed from Sheltered Rock & should be at the impact area in just over 1hr to begin searching for the radio beacon embedded in the RTG casing. The probe sent back 915kb of science data before being destroyed - not a lot but every tiny amount precious!

because the rocket was still pitching over at MECO, it retained a slight nose down rotation that was only partially cancelled out by deploying the Bot, so eventually yesterday we were able to see over the size adapter and spot it drifting off into the distance
